Project: Juniper House, Brackley
Site Description: The UK’s first care home built to Passive House standard

To carry out Commercial Air Testing to meet the Passive House Standard of ≤0.6ACH.

After being commissioned to undertake the testing of this project, the first step of this process was to carry out a design concept review in order to highlight any potential anomalies or flaws in the design drawings for Juniper House. We proceeded to carry out membrane testing and Air Permeability Testing at the 1st fix stage. During this process, we conducted several pre-test site visits in order to monitor progress, assist, diagnose and provide advice and suggestions on how to rectify potentially problematic areas. We did this by using visual aids, in the form of thermographic imaging and smoke testing; which contributed towards clearly highlighting air ingress. The final stage of the process was to conduct an On-Completion Air Permeability Test to meet the Passive House Standard of ≤0.6ACH.

Juniper House has opened to residents and ATSPACE went on to be invited to check the performance of the first affordable and social housing development to be built to the Passive House standard in Wimbish near Saffron Walden, amongst other Passive House projects.
